Why This Site?

"Retirement" as understood and anticipated by post-World War II generations until the present time is being re-defined as never expected. In the next twenty to thirty years, with advances in technology that prolong life, and with rising costs for insurance and health care combined with uncertainties in our health care system, an aging population may be faced with situations and decisions not previously considered and for which many may find themselves unprepared. With the changes we will see an increasing need for advocacy within the representative areas of service as well as a continually growing need for volunteers to give back to the community in service to this rapidly changing community at large.

In 1993, experiences as a first time caregiver began the journey that has led to this virtual network. At best it is unsettling to have the responsibility of caring for a terminal or seriously ill person, but that caregiver experience created a new appreciation, and the need, for support and easy access to reliable, skilled professional resources and information.

Since 1999, after listening to many families with questions about needed assistance to maintain a desired quality of life, to expressions of frustration and fatigue from a care giving role, to grief over necessary lifestyle changes, to loss and sadness, the idea for this single location became clear – a convenient and safe place to find information and needed services for a variety of needs.
